Hello, and I suppose happy new year, as these are the first weeknotes of 2023! Also happy St Patricks day!
On Saturday 11th, I joined a room full of 300 women and non-binary people at the Upfront and Centre conference in Glasgow. It was a really great and inspiring day, and one of the workshops was on building better writing habits, how to write consistently.
I was reflecting on this workshop, and how much I enjoyed writing my weeknotes but found it difficult to put the time aside to write at times. I’ve been thinking about how else I might share my week in a way that better fit with my current capacity and creative interest. One habit I’ve had now for many years now has been my 1 Second Video. A project to record one second of your day, everyday for a year. 2023, is my 8th year doing this project. Over the last 8 years, I’ve taken over 3000 1 second videos of my life, documenting my 4 years at university, my traveling Asia, getting my first Service Designer job, the pandemic. All of, recorded and captured in just 1 second everyday. I love the creative freedom of this, the fact it’s visual, the fact it captures a lot about a day in one shot.
I was thinking about how I could build this habit, but for my weeknotes. And so, I’m going to start a new approach. Framing my weeknotes around 7 photos, one per day, with a bit of text to go along side this. I’m also going to try being a little visual and funky with this, adding in some graphics. This will be by no means perfect on the first go, but I want to experience a little more.
So, here goes..
Friday 10th — Thursday 16th March
Upfront and Centre, Upfront, Lauren Currie, Kasey Robinson, Nagelda Dales, Becs Evans, Dr Yekemi Otaru
The Love of Print, Kelvin Grove Art Gallery, June Carey, Shaded Lines
Tantrum Donuts
I quite enjoyed this. Was nice to format things a little different, get into InDesign and create some little page layouts.
Let me know your thoughts and feedback, this is a trial and I’ll be making some changes along the way I’m sure!
